Annual Resident Reports--are past due!

Annual Resident Reports were due to the ACOS by June 30th, over 900 forms were received! ACOS staff are reviewing the reports to make sure that they are complete and in compliance. Residents and programs will be notified if additional information is needed.

The Residency Evaluation and Standards Committee (RESC) will meet on August 24th. At that time, the RESC will finalize it's review of the Annual Reports. Results of the review will be made available early September. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact [email protected].

Nominations--2018 – 2019 Resident Section Governing Council

Surgical Residents who would like to become more involved with ACOS should consider serving on the 2018-2019 Resident Section Governing Council. Elected positions include Chair, Secretary/Treasurer, and one Member-at-Large. In anticipation of the creation of a new officer position, nominations are also being accepted for the Research Ambassador.

The creation of the new officer position will be voted on during the Annual Resident Section Business Meeting. If the new position is favored, nominees for the position will be considered and the Research Ambassador will be elected. To learn more about this position click here.

To be eligible to serve, you must be a resident member of the ACOS and enrolled in a surgical residency program during your term of service. In addition to contributing to the governance of the ACOS Resident Section, council members receive a stipend to attend the ACA and participate in the Annual Resident Section Business Meeting.

If you are interested in serving on the council, please send an e-mail expressing your interest along with an endorsement from your program director to Jessika Brown, Manager, Resident and Program Services, [email protected]. The slate of nominees for election will be finalized and announced in early September.

Elections will be held at the Residents Section Annual Business Meeting, scheduled during the Annual Clinical Assembly, hosted October 18-21 in Atlanta, GA. The exact time and date of the meeting with be forthcoming. If nominated, you are highly encouraged to be present, you will be able to address your fellow residents before the vote and if elected assume your duties for the 2018-2019 year.

At the end of the meeting, the current Resident Section Chair, Alice Higdon, DO, will close out an amazing year and pass the torch to Daniel Edwards, DO, Chair-elect. Information about the current Governing Council can be found here.
