ACOS to Manage AOAMI

NEWS FROM THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC SURGEONS | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 14, 2016

The American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (ACOS) and the American Osteopathic Association of Medical Informatics (AOAMI) are pleased to announce that the ACOS has been selected to serve as the management services partner for AOAMI. The ACOS will support AOAMI’s administrative, governance, continuing medical education (CME), advocacy, policy development, membership, and website management services. The AOAMI is an existing affiliate under the American Osteopathic Association, and as medical informatics certification and accreditation models evolve as a new clinical specialty, the ACOS is in a strategic position to support this new and exciting discipline. Because of ACOS’s unique governance model in support of many clinical specialties within surgery, the framework for adding management of AOAMI as an independent entity is already in place.

Although informatics crosses all clinical disciplines, and ACOS is primarily surgical in nature, the management and operations support for AOAMI will allow for their continued unique identity and branding. As healthcare becomes more dependent on health information technologies, it is critical for the osteopathic profession to continue to support AOAMI as a brain trust of tech savvy physicians. The complexities of this new field impact quality, safety, reimbursement, and many other efficiencies for all osteopathic physicians. The ACOS and AOAMI are proud to join forces at this critical time in the medical profession as payment and quality models shift to new initiatives.
