In 2027, ACOS turns 100. Members applying now will be inducted as part of the Centennial Class of Fellows — the first class honored in the College’s 100th year.
The mission behind the College.
Established in 1927 to advance osteopathic surgery as a profession, ACOS exists to raise the standards of training, support surgeons at every stage of practice, and sustain the osteopathic tradition in American medicine. That mission is the through-line behind every program, every credential, and every gathering the College offers.

Career Center
Post a job. Find a job. Build a career. The ACOS Career Center connects hospitals, practices, and multi-specialty groups with osteopathic surgical talent across five disciplines — and equips surgeons with resume tools, development resources, and opportunities at every stage.
Volunteer Opportunities
Serve on a committee. Moderate a session. Speak at a future meeting. Mentor — or be mentored — through Mentor Match. The College runs on members who lend their time, expertise, and leadership to sustain the work.
Advocacy
Advocacy at ACOS protects the practice of osteopathic surgery and carries the profession’s priorities into policy — graduate medical education, reimbursement, scope of practice, patient access, and recognition of osteopathic principles. Members stand alongside the AOA at DO Day on Capitol Hill and across year-round federal and state engagement.
Awards
Awards recognize the members whose work defines osteopathic surgical excellence — from the Orel F. Martin Medal and the Ballinger, Beaumont, and Humanitarian Awards to Resident Achievement, the Robert C. Erwin Literary Award, and College Service Awards. Recipients are honored each year at the Annual Conclave Ceremony.
Fellowship & Distinguished Fellowship
FACOS and DFACOS are the credentials of osteopathic surgery — earned through sustained commitment, scholarship, and service to the specialty. Each designation carries its own eligibility criteria, points structure, and application path.
